About the roleThe London Fire Brigade are looking to recruit a Payroll Assistant on a 3-month interim basis. The post holder will provide support in the payment of salaries and expenses for some 7,000 salaried employees, payment of Creditors invoices, credit control for invoices issued by the Brigade and other financial transactions. The role will include working to service standards, performing numerical calculations and liaising with other Brigade staff, external suppliers, contractors and agencies on pay or creditor matters.聽Key responsibilities路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Prepare and process input data for the payroll, creditors/debtors and finance systems, ensuring work is completed accurately within the required deadlines.路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 For payroll, prepare manual payments as necessary, incorporating the correct application of Income Tax, National Insurance, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Paternity Pay, Statutory Sick Pay, Incapacity Benefit, Occupational Pension Schemes and other statutory and non-statutory deductions.路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Accurately check output produced by the payroll and/or creditor/debtor systems after the payment runs and distribute as appropriate.路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Accurately check and process petty cash and purchase card claims and payments and deal with any related queries.路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Use Microsoft Office (E.g. Outlook, Word and Excel) and other financial software as required.Skills, knowledge, and experience路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Experience of working in a similar role within a public sector setting路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Experience of using a range of IT including Microsoft Office (E.g. Outlook, Word and Excel) and Finance software applications (E.g. Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable)路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 An understanding of payroll services work and the calculations required.路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Awareness of financial controls and fraud risks in order to minimise exposure to financial loss.路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 An understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information/data and the legal requirements of the Data Protection Act/GDPR and Freedom of Information Act.路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Local government pension scheme knowledge is desirable.If this role of interest to you and you have the required skills and experience, then please click apply.
