Payroll Officer

  • Hourly Rate: PAYE £17.02 / Ltd Umb £21.49

Join the London Fire Brigade as a Payroll Officer in a crucial role that supports the payment of salaries and expenses for approximately 7,000 salaried employees. This position is an immediate start and offers a hybrid working environment, combining onsite and remote work. The role involves a range of financial transactions including payroll processing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Prepare and process input data for the payroll, creditors/debtors, and finance systems, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Handle manual payments for payroll, incorporating the correct application of Income Tax, National Insurance, and other statutory and non-statutory deductions.
  • Check output produced by the payroll and/or creditor/debtor systems after payment runs and distribute as appropriate.
  • Manage petty cash and purchase card claims and payments, addressing any related queries.
  • Use Microsoft Office tools like Outlook, Word, and Excel, along with other financial software as required.
  • Assist the Payroll team and provide backfill support for ongoing payroll projects, such as pensions remedy and the implementation of iTrent.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in payroll processing and handling financial transactions.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and financial software.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Good communication skills for liaising with Brigade staff, external suppliers, contractors, and agencies.
