Job Description:

Southwark Council is seeking a qualified Pest Technician to join our Environmental Services team on a temporary full time basis for 3 months ongoing. In this role, you will work one day per week with opportunities for overtime as part of our call-out rota, where you will handle tasks that may involve working with dogs and live rats. This role will require excellent pest control skills, and a proactive approach to managing public health risks associated with pests in the Southwark area.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pest control treatments and inspections for a range of pests, including rodents, insects, and other common pests found in urban environments.
  • Respond to call-outs, including emergency situations as part of a rota, ensuring prompt and effective pest control services.
  • Provide expert advice to residents and businesses on pest prevention measures and best practices.
  • Work safely with live animals, including rats, as necessary in the course of pest control duties.
  • Handle dogs in pest control contexts (previous experience preferred).
  • Keep accurate records of pest control activities, treatments applied, and materials used.
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and Southwark Council policies.


Requirements:

  • BPCA Level 2 Qualification in Pest Management or higher (essential).
  • Valid UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Previous experience in pest control, particularly in urban environments.
  • Comfortable handling live rats and working with dogs in a professional setting.
  • Strong knowledge of pest control methods, equipment, and relevant regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in the field.
