As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting teachers and students during practical science lessons. Working collaboratively with the science department, you will be responsible for maintaining the laboratories, preparing equipment and materials, and supporting the delivery of practical experiments. Your attention to detail, organizational skills, and scientific knowledge will contribute to creating a safe and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare laboratory equipment, materials, and chemicals required for practical science lessons, ensuring they are set up and ready for use.
  • Assist teachers and students during practical experiments, providing guidance and technical support.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and tidiness, ensuring equipment and workstations are properly cleaned and stored.
  • Conduct regular safety checks, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and reporting any hazards or concerns.
  • Manage inventory and stock levels, ensuring adequate supplies are available for practical activities.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, coordinating repairs and replacements when necessary.
  • Support the science department in organizing and setting up displays, exhibitions, and other scientific events.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and staff members to share best practices and ensure the smooth running of laboratory operations.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in laboratory techniques and scientific advancements relevant to the role.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, particularly in relation to health and safety and safeguarding.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A background in science, with relevant qualifications or experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Previous experience working as a Science Technician or in a similar role is advantageous.
  • Strong practical skills and knowledge of laboratory procedures, including the handling and storage of chemicals and equipment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
