Senior Architect Job in London

A Senior Architect job is now available with a leading conservation and heritage architecture practice in central London. This is a rare opportunity to lead on a major UK heritage scheme of national significance, within a supportive, employee-owned studio.

The practice is recognised globally for its work in the conservation of historic buildings, with projects ranging from UNESCO World Heritage Sites to contemporary interventions within sensitive contexts. Collaboration, learning, and career development are central to their ethos.

You'll be joining a talented London team delivering a complex, high-profile public sector project, rich in architectural history and technical challenge.

This role will see you leading multiple conservation projects from inception to completion. You'll play a central role in delivering technically challenging heritage work, liaising with public stakeholders and specialist consultants, and guiding teams to deliver contextual, compliant, and sustainable design outcomes.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Leading projects across all RIBA stages, ensuring timely, cost-effective and high-quality delivery
  • Applying conservation principles to listed and historic buildings, in line with planning and heritage legislation
  • Overseeing design development and technical detailing
  • Working alongside Partners and Associates to manage stakeholder relationships, present designs, and gain approvals
  • Conducting site inspections, managing site issues, and ensuring heritage quality is maintained throughout delivery
  • Embedding energy-efficient and sustainable design approaches within the constraints of heritage settings
  • Managing project budgets, preparing fee proposals, and ensuring financial success and compliance
  • Coordinating BIM workflows using Revit, AutoCAD and NBS to support technical delivery
  • Engaging with wider industry events and updates to support ongoing professional development and contribute to the practice's profile.

Required Skills & Experience

  • ARB registered Architect with a minimum of 5 years' post-Part III experience in the UK
  • AABC or SCA accreditation, or working towards it
  • Proven experience working with historic and listed buildings, ideally in the public sector
  • Confidence leading conservation-led projects through all RIBA stages
  • Strong technical and detailing skills, especially in sensitive heritage contexts
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Building Regs and heritage Planning Policy
  • Experience in managing and mentoring junior architectural staff
  • Ability to lead multiple projects, manage competing priorities, and maintain high standards
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, especially with clients and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and NBS with ability to support and oversee team workflows
  • Experience working with NEC3/4 contracts, including contract management and compliance is desirable
  • Ideally have financial acumen with experience managing project costs, fees and profitability
  • Experience managing relationships with clients, local authorities and heritage bodies.
