We are partnering with a national federated charity to recruit a Head of Risk, Policy, and Compliance. This position is initially offered on a six-month temporary basis, with the opportunity to apply for the permanent role. This full-time position, based in London, offers a day rate of £225.00 PAYE (inclusive of holiday pay) or £266.95 through an umbrella company.

The ideal candidate will hold a relevant professional qualification or be in the final stages of one in governance and/or risk management, such as IRM Risk Practitioner or ICSA Company Secretary.

The primary focus of this role is to serve as the leading expert on risk management and policy development, ensuring that the organisation’s systems and processes are both effective and aligned with best practices.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Advising the Board, ELT, Committees, Risk Owners and Leads and all staff and volunteers involved in the risk management processes

• Overseeing the Risk Register, ensuring it is accurate, comprehensive and up to date - and to produce regular reports on its efficacy, including the accountability for mitigations, actions and completion dates

• Initially attending the risk sections of all ELT, Board and Committee meetings and advise on all aspects of risk

• Ensuring that the changes made to the Risk Register identified in Board, Committee and ELT meetings are updated in the Risk Register

• Holding responsibility for documenting the risk policy, the risk appetite, roles and responsibilities for the Board, ELT, UKLT, Committees and Risk Leads, as well as monitoring that the prescribed standards and ways of working are adhered

• Providing training materials, training and support to all staff and volunteers involved in risk management, including the induction of new staff and volunteers

• Working with the nominated Risk Champions to promote and implement the principles and practices of effective risk management

• Promoting and maintaining a continuous improvement approach to risk management

• Deputising for the Head of Governance on matters of risk, policy and compliance

Experience required:

• Relevant professional qualification or in final stages of qualification in governance and/or risk, e.g. IRM Risk Practitioner, ICSA Company Secretary

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

• Experience of supporting Boards, Committees and Executive Teams in relation to organisational governance matters

• Experience of developing and managing strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders

• Experience of embedding risk best practice

• Experience of organisational performance management

• Experience of implementing organisational risk management processes

Working hours:

• Full time (35 hours a week)

• Monday to Friday

• Working from home three days a week (scope for flexibility)
