Our client, is currently seeking a Principal Urban Design Officer on a contract basis. This role is pivotal in shaping the urban landscape through strategic planning and development management, contributing to significant regeneration programmes.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiating and appraising major and strategic planning proposals in relation to private and Council regeneration programmes, drawing in over 1bn of inward investment and shaping the borough
  • Acting as the principal specialist advisor to the Council's Planning service regarding urban design, architectural appraisals, and public realm
  • Managing the Design Review Panel
  • Supporting the Planning Policy team in the development and review of design policies and supplementary planning guidance on residential design
  • Line management of junior design officers


Job Requirements:

  • Experience in development management within an urban design context
  • Strong negotiation and appraisal skills related to major planning proposals
  • Ability to act as a specialist advisor on urban design and architectural matters
  • Proficiency in managing design review panels and contributing to planning policy development
  • Leadership skills to manage and mentor junior team members
  • Understanding of regeneration programmes and inward investment strategies
