A public research university based in West London is looking for an Appeals & Compliance Officer on a temporary basis for at least 3 months, to start as soon as possible. There is the potential for this position to be extended. The hours are 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, fully office based. You must have prior experience dealing with appeals within higher education.

Responsibilities include:

  • To log and review all appeals, determining eligibility in conjunction with the Senior Complaints and Compliance Officer and undertaking investigations as necessary.
  • Organising meetings with Appeal Chairs and supporting them to take appropriate decisions and organising appeal panels where necessary.
  • Ensuring that decisions are logged and communicated appropriately.
  • To collect the required documentation including hard copy/electronic documentation and data for complaints, appeals, disciplinary and selected compliance cases.
  • To arrange and attend formal meetings, interviews and hearings, take responsibility for the timely circulation of papers, take minutes and write them up in a professional, accurate manner.
  • To write up outcome letters to students where required.
  • To create and maintain accurate and comprehensive case archives in conjunction with the Senior Complaints and Compliance Officer and to assist in the monitoring of the University’s policies and procedures.
  • To maintain a variety of databases, i.e. Trackers and Registers for complaints, appeals, disciplinary and other procedures

Skills & experience

  • Strong administrative experience and dealing with appeals in higher education
  • Minute taking.
  • Experience of dealing with a varied workload and a wide range of administrative procedures.
  • Experience of delivering effective customer service.
  • Good IT skills, commensurate with the need to record, track, retrieve, edit, analyse, report and file complex documents and data in a variety of formats, including Excel.
  • Experience in using Unit-e or other student record systems and other student information databases, in particular assessment records.
  • Good understanding of the appeals process.
