About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled Train Rostering & Planning Manager to lead workforce planning and rostering strategies within a fast-paced rail environment. You will ensure optimal resource utilization, compliance with operational needs, and alignment with strategic goals while building collaborative relationships across teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert for resourcing, rostering, and manpower planning.
  • Analyze and adapt rostering processes to accommodate future business changes.
  • Ensure cost-effective resource management and compliance with agreements.
  • Support pay negotiations and contribute to timetable planning.
  • Develop and oversee contingent resource plans for events like strikes or timetable adjustments.
  • Mentor and manage the resourcing team, ensuring effective collaboration and process improvement.
  • Provide data analysis and reporting to demonstrate economic and customer-focused outcomes.
  • Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders, including unions and management teams.
  • Represent the business at industry forums and deputize for senior managers as required.

Experience and Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with proven experience in resource planning and rostering.
  • Knowledge of rail operations, industry standards, and rostering systems (e.g., TRACS Roster, Crew Plan).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level) and other Office tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex workloads and prioritize effectively.
  • Education to A-Level standard or equivalent, with a strong focus on numeracy and literacy.
  • Membership in a professional body (e.g., Chartered Institution of Railway Operators) is desirable.
