MLK Search is excited to be supporting this 'Outstanding' Independent, trauma-centred therapeutic group of schools in London who are seeking to appoint an Assistant Principal for their Primary School setting in January 2025 (or sooner if possible).

All pupils have EHCPs for adverse childhood experiences and SEMH needs. The school caters for all National Curriculum subjects and learning is linked to children’s curriculum and individual needs, progress plans and assessment of learning and achievement.

About the Role:

The Assistant Principal will work with other leaders and teachers to support the quality of education and therapy to ensure an efficient, organised and smooth operation. You will line manage teachers to achieve agreed expectations, develop strategies and ensure practices are implemented effectively. The Assistant Principal will be visible in and around the site, contribute and leading staff briefings, and training, and will fulfil the role of Deputy DSL.

The opportunity would suit a confident leader with successful experience of teaching and leading within a proprietary owned Independent or Private School setting. Knowledge and experience of supporting children and young people that have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges would be highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • To work with the executive principal to ensure standards are consistently outstanding, in line with ISS and Ofsted expectations.
  • To take a leading role in supporting and maintaining the efficient organisation, timetabling, management and supervision.
  • To organise and manage the school and staff team effectively
  • To be able to lead and manage behaviour positively in line with the school’s policy.
  • To be a first point of senior contact for parents, visitors, staff and pupils.
  • To establish positive, collaborative, professional working relationships with all stakeholders
  • To contribute to weekly health and safety reviews and working collaboratively to resolve issues
  • To role-model the outstanding professionalism and values of the organisation.
  • To contribute to the group, in raising standards and promoting pride, inspiration and excitement.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified teacher status or relevant Degree level qualification
  • Successful teaching experience within a Prep or Primary setting with SEMH/SEN pupils
  • In-depth grasp of the Primary National Curriculum
  • Previous leadership experience within a challenging context
  • Recent CP and Safer Recruitment training
  • Experience of school development and improvement strategies
  • Evidence of involvement in CPD activities related to SEMH/SEN
