Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs) - Supporting Non-Verbal Children with Learning Difficulties

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a team and support children with learning difficulties, particularly those who are non-verbal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with classroom teachers to provide tailored support for non-verbal students with learning difficulties.
  • Use a variety of communication tools and methods such as Makaton, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), and assistive technology to engage and connect with students.
  • Assist in the development of individualised learning plans to help students achieve their academic and personal goals.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring every child feels valued and supported.
  • Support children in both academic and social activities, helping them build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers, therapists, and parents.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN), particularly those who are non-verbal.
  • Knowledge of communication systems such as Makaton or PECS (training can be provided).
  • Patience, creativity, and a nurturing approach to supporting children's unique learning styles.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills and a strong sense of empathy.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in SEN or a related field is preferred.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or a similar qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • First Aid and Safeguarding training (desirable but not essential).
