About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Project Director (Project Manager) to lead the execution and delivery of large-scale data centre construction projects in London. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of data centre projects, from initial planning through to successful completion. The role will involve strategic oversight, team leadership, client management, and ensuring the delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

As Project Director, you will be the driving force behind the project, providing leadership to cross-functional teams, managing key stakeholder relationships, and maintaining a focus on operational efficiency and commercial success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Project Leadership:

    • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of multiple high-profile data centre projects, ensuring alignment with client objectives and organizational goals.
    • Develop and implement project strategies, including scope, timeline, cost control, and resource allocation, to ensure successful project delivery.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, representing the company and ensuring strong, ongoing relationships.
  • Team Leadership and Management:

    • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary project teams, including project managers, engineers, designers, and subcontractors, to ensure collaboration, performance, and accountability.
    • Ensure clear communication and alignment within the project team and with stakeholders, fostering a positive team culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Provide guidance and support to project managers and other team members in resolving complex project issues.
  • Project Delivery and Oversight:

    • Oversee project progress and ensure that milestones are met according to agreed timelines and budgets.
    • Monitor project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure that issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.
    • Ensure quality assurance, health and safety standards, and compliance with industry regulations are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Financial and Budget Management:

    • Take full ownership of project budgets, ensuring cost control and timely financial reporting.
    • Work closely with senior management and clients to track project costs, forecast future expenditure, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
    • Oversee the preparation of change orders, variations, and claims management, ensuring all adjustments are documented and addressed promptly.
  • Client and Stakeholder Management:

    • Maintain and strengthen relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and other key stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals.
    • Conduct regular project meetings with clients and stakeholders, providing updates and addressing concerns in a timely manner.
    • Negotiate contracts, variations, and dispute resolutions, ensuring compliance with legal and contractual obligations.
  • Reporting and Documentation:

    • Lead the preparation and submission of comprehensive project reports, detailing progress, risks, financial status, and milestones.
    • Maintain accurate documentation, including contracts, drawings, meeting minutes, and health and safety records.
    • Ensure that project documentation complies with both client and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in construction project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing large-scale, complex projects such as data centres.
  • Chartered status (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB, APM, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong experience managing high-value budgets (£50M+) and leading teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Extensive experience in data centre construction or other large-scale commercial/technical projects.
  • Proficient in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT) and project delivery methods.
