Overview: Reporting to the CIO, this role focuses on overseeing the identification, evaluation, and execution of real estate development projects to enhance our real estate portfolio and generate returns in line with our risk and return expectations.

Job Description: The Real Estate Development Manager is responsible overseeing and managing the real estate development activities within the organization. This role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing real estate development projects to enhance the family office's real estate portfolio and generate returns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • RE Portfolio Planning; based on our Strategic Asset Allocation, leading an annual process with our RE development companies to allocate capital towards a balanced portfolio of RE development projects
  • Project Identification and Evaluation; working with our RE development companies, identifying potential real estate development opportunities that align with our investment strategy and objectives, including conducting market research and financial analysis to assess the viability, potential returns and risk
  • Funding; responsible for securing shariah-compliant debt funding for our projects (first and second charge) as well as supporting Investor Relations to secure equity from other co-investors
  • Project Planning and Execution; responsible for reviewing, challenging and monitoring project plans for real estate development initiatives. This involves coordinating with the development teams in our development companies and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective project execution, including activities such as site acquisition, design, construction, and leasing in stabilisation periods.
  • Financial Analysis and Modelling; conducts financial analysis and modelling to evaluate the financial feasibility and profitability of real estate development projects. This includes analysing cash flows, investment returns, and risk assessments to support investment decisions and project financing.
  • Due Diligence and Risk Management; performs due diligence on potential real estate development projects, including legal, regulatory, and environmental assessments. Also identifies and manages project risks, such as market fluctuations, construction delays, and regulatory changes.
  • Stakeholder Management: interacts with various stakeholders, including co-investors, funding providers, partners, tenants, and local authorities, maintaining effective communication, negotiate contracts, and manage relationships to ensure successful project outcomes.

Candidate Profile Sought:

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is usually required. A master's degree or professional certifications related to real estate may be advantageous.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of previous experience in real estate development, project management, or a related field is highly desirable. Experience working in a family office or real estate investment firm is a plus to demonstrate investment capability

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of real estate development processes, including market analysis, project feasibility, and financial modelling.
  • Proficiency in real estate valuation techniques and investment analysis.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of real estate financing and capital structures.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of local real estate regulations, zoning laws, and permitting processes.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as Microsoft Excel, project management tools, and real estate analysis software.
