The Role
As Assistant Health Editor, you will play a key role in shaping health coverage, working on breaking news stories, investigative pieces, and long-form features. You’ll work closely with Senior Health Editors, leading reporters, and liaising with key stakeholders to ensure the newspaper’s reporting remains agenda-setting, insightful, and impactful.
Key Responsibilities:
- Breaking exclusive health stories and ensuring coverage is fast, accurate, and engaging.
- Writing and editing longer-form features and analysis pieces.
- Developing and maintaining strong contacts across the NHS, pharmaceutical industry, government departments, regulatory bodies, and beyond.
- Helping to commission and guide reporters, ensuring high editorial standards.
- Collaborating with other desks to produce multi-platform content.

- A proven track record in health journalism, ideally at a national level.
- Strong news instincts, with the ability to break exclusive stories.
- A deep understanding of health policy, NHS structures, and the wider healthcare landscape.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience in both short- and long-form journalism.
