We are assisting a well-established Trade Union, and they are recruiting for an experienced Communications Officer to join the business for a 3-month fixed contract (possibility of extending).

This role would be ideal for an experienced external Communications professional who has either trade union, public sector, charity, government, education experience or other political / campaigning organisations.

This role is a fully flexible position, either home based, hybrid or office working.

Reporting into a Head of Communications, the role will be responsible for working within the communications team and supporting with all external communications, press releases, copywriting, media liaison and assisting with social media and government communications. Key duties and areas of responsibility will include;

  • Reporting into the Head of the Communications and working as part of a team of 4 people.
  • Ensure communications team documents are kept up to date including planning grids, stakeholder engagement grids and any relevant planning apps or systems.
  • Assisting with writing press releases, briefing notes, articles, speeches, social media content and other materials
  • Responding to press and media enquiries, briefing journalists and promote key senior staff members to the media by arranging appropriate appearances, interviews, and articles.
  • Coordinate meetings and public events with and produce regular briefings for members of parliament and peers.
  • Responding to media enquiries, support with livestreaming events and podcasts and assisting with social media comms
  • Assisting with organising national and regional press conferences, interviews, briefings, member engagement events (online and in-person),
  • Proof reading to ensure that documents are of a high standard before being sent out and action plans for campaigns

For this role it is essential that candidates have proven Communications experience at this level. Ideally candidates will have media communications experience and some experience of dealing with local government and officials.

You will be working as part of a well-established and collaborative Communications team, in a flexible position.
