Our client is a privately-owned high-end building company which specialises in quality residential refurbishment and remodeling projects, alongside exciting commercial contracts.

Following continued growth, the company is looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor with considerable experience in the residential sector.

Based in West London, with most of their residential projects within Zone 2 in Central London, you will work closely with the Managing Director in selecting, tendering, and managing all projects' financial aspects. It is currently a small business with an outstanding reputation and client base, a strong dedicated team of tradesmen, and the potential to rapidly expand.

The successful candidate will have the ability to think clearly and analytically in terms of how they price tenders, as well as how they financially control the running of projects. They will need to be up to speed with current CDM and H&S regulations and be committed to helping the company grow & develop.

QS Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying/Technical Qualification
  • Membership or working towards MCIOB or RICS
  • Experience working on residential projects is essential, and you must have a good understanding of construction contracts
  • Solid experience in financial management and cost control

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Pricing of Tenders ranging from £100k to 2 million
  • Preparation of estimates and cost plans
  • Ability to take off and schedule projects from construction drawings
  • Provide commercial expertise and be responsible for the financial delivery of various projects
  • Be proactive in identifying the existence of all variations (changes) to the works in conjunction with other project team members
  • Valuing site instructions and day works
  • Price and agree on all project variations
  • Submit external valuations, making sure they meet the conditions of the main contract
  • Full responsibility for the project cash position
  • Be proactive in identifying the existence of any "claim" and "extension of time" situations in conjunction with other project team members
  • Sub-contractor procurement
  • Attend site meetings regularly, prepare project reports, and be involved in post-contract activities

 

General Skills:

  • Able to build relationships quickly, have strong IT skills (particularly Microsoft Word/Excel), and have a commercial mindset
  • A desire to quickly develop their role and become an essential asset to the Company
  • An ability to build and improve systems to streamline the tendering and cost management processes
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The skillset to work independently, both from home and remotely as the role will not be exclusively office-based
  • Willingness to travel around London during the day to carry out site inspections and meet with clients
