Carpentry and Joinery Quantity Surveyor
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in carpentry and joinery to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for ensuring that our projects remain cost-effective, financially viable, and delivered within budget, focusing specifically on the carpentry and joinery aspects. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing costs from the initial calculations to the final figures, ensuring that all financial and contractual obligations are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Prepare detailed estimates for carpentry and joinery components, including material, labor, and overhead costs for various projects.
- Tender Management: Review and assess tender documents, create and manage tender processes, and liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
- Cost Control: Monitor and manage project costs throughout the life cycle of the project, ensuring that expenditures stay within budget and adjusting as necessary to accommodate project changes.
- Contract Administration: Prepare and manage contracts, including bill of quantities (BoQ) for carpentry and joinery packages, ensuring compliance with all contractual terms.
- Supplier and Subcontractor Management: Build strong relationships with carpentry and joinery suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating favorable terms and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
- Financial Reporting: Generate regular financial reports and provide accurate forecasts, assessing risks and suggesting ways to mitigate cost-related issues.
- Change Orders and Variations: Evaluate and process change orders related to carpentry and joinery work, assessing the impact on budget and timeline.
- Site Visits: Conduct regular site visits to verify the quality of work, compliance with project specifications, and adherence to budgets and schedules.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and design teams to ensure all aspects of carpentry and joinery are integrated into the project smoothly and cost-effectively.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field. Professional certification (e.g., RICS) is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of quantity surveying experience with specific expertise in carpentry and joinery work on commercial or residential projects.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in cost estimation software, MS Excel, and project management tools. Familiarity with construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of carpentry and joinery materials, techniques, and industry best practices.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively and build positive relationships with suppliers, contractors, and team members.
