Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor - Main Contractor

Location: South London
Salary: £85,000 - £90,000 plus Car Allowance, Travel covered and Bonus

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with expertise in cost management, procurement, and post-contract activities for a large-scale construction project. The successful candidate will manage and oversee all aspects of the cost and procurement process for a £30m contract, ensuring the project is delivered within budget and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Management:
    • Develop and maintain detailed cost plans for the project, ensuring all costs are accurately tracked and controlled.
    • Monitor project progress, identifying and addressing any cost-related issues or risks.
    • Produce regular cost reports and forecasts to keep stakeholders informed.
    • Ensure timely and accurate valuation and certification of works completed.
  • Procurement:
    • Oversee the procurement of subcontractors, suppliers, and materials, ensuring best value for money.
    • Prepare and issue tender documents, evaluate bids, and negotiate contracts.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Post-Contract Management:
    • Manage the post-contract cost control, ensuring that project variations and claims are properly managed and documented.
    • Conduct regular site visits and attend project meetings to ensure that project costs are controlled effectively.
    • Liaise with the project team to resolve any disputes and ensure that contractual obligations are met.
  • Cut and Carve Projects:
    • Handle the intricacies of cut and carve works, understanding the complexities of modifying existing structures while managing costs and time efficiently.
    • Provide expert advice on the implications of cut and carve projects from a cost perspective.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (RICS accredited preferred).
    • At least 10 years of experience in Quantity Surveying, with a focus on cost management, procurement, and post-contract activities.
    • Extensive experience working on large-scale projects with a contract value of £30m or more.
    • Strong knowledge of cut and carve works and how to manage costs in these complex scenarios.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Proficiency in cost management software and MS Office Suite.
  • Desirable:
    • Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS).
    • Experience in the construction of commercial, residential, or mixed-use developments.
    • Knowledge of construction law and contract management.
