Investment Associate – Renewable Energy
 
Climate17 is working with a fast-growing renewable energy company that is committed to developing, building, and operating innovative renewable energy projects.
 
They provide a comprehensive approach to renewable energy development, offering services throughout every stage of a project. This includes planning advisory, project rights development, asset management, and operation.
 
Their long-term mission is to create utility scale renewable energy projects using multi-technologies and to take large energy intensive users off-grid.
 
Due to growth in the business, they are looking for an Investment Associate to join their Corporate Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic candidate to join a fast-growing renewable energy business as they head into the next phase of growth.  

 
About the role
 
The client is seeking an experienced Investment Associate to work within their Corporate Finance team to support with the origination, diligence, execution and management of new investments.
 
Activities for the role include (i) screening interested parties, (ii) performing complex financial analysis and valuations, (iii) overseeing the commercial, technical and impact due diligence processes for investment opportunities, (iv) leading aspects of documentation of funding agreements, (v) managing Q&A processes with third parties as part of disposals, and (vi) the preparation of investment, restructuring or disposition recommendations.
 
On a day-to-day basis, this will consist of:
 
  • Leading day-to-day management of transactions from origination though to completion, including preparing and managing trackers.
  • Coordinating sales processes, including managing the VDR and Q&A, and liaising with interested parties and third-party advisors such as lawyers and accountants.
 
  • Provision of research information to support investment proposals, conducting industry research and competitor analysis.
 
  • The drafting and appraisal of business plans, information memoranda and offer letters.
 
  • Evaluation of prospective deals, assessing synergies and assisting in full commercial and financial due-diligence process.
 
  • Preparation of valuation analysis for acquisitions and disposals and developing bespoke financial models with support from the Investment managers.
 
  • Leading post-deal handover to internal operational teams to ensure a smooth and effective integration process.
 
  • Supporting senior team members on other ad hoc projects concerning corporate strategy, financial planning, and business modelling.
 
  • Preparation of presentations for management team meetings and general team admin.
 
  • Supporting senior team members in the review, drafting and negotiation of transaction documentation.
 
The role will be based in the client’s London office. They offer hybrid working, with most teams splitting their week between home and office.

 
About you
 
The client would consider the ideal candidate to have the following:
 
  • A minimum of 3-4 years post qualified work experience (transaction services, corporate finance or relevant sector experience is preferable).
 
  • Prior renewable energy / infrastructure / energy industry knowledge.
 
  • Strong financial modelling skills, with preference for those with relevant infrastructure and project finance experience (additional training can be provided if necessary).
 
  • Being a motivated, self-starter who has excellent interpersonal and presentational skills and be an effective team player.
 
  • Being willing to learn the development, construction, and operations processes in the renewable energy sector (with a particular focus on solar and battery storage).
 
  • ACA, CFA or other equivalent professional/post-graduate qualifications are preferred.
 
The candidate will be a bridge between the Corporate Finance and development teams and will be required to monitor our investments, funding, and development activities holistically.
