Service Charge Officer

We are seeking a Service Charge Officer for a national housing association. This role involves ensuring accurate, consistent, timely, and transparent reporting and accounting of service charges for all residents, across all tenures, in compliance with legislation, agreements, and best practices.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Handle service charge enquiries from residents and internal staff.
  • Work with managers to answer escalated customer complaints.
  • Collaborate closely with analysts to ensure accuracy before service charge estimates and actuals are sent.
  • Investigate and make necessary service charge adjustments in ERP.
  • Participate and contribute to projects relating to service charges.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure accuracy of service charges.
  • Manage and respond to emails sent to the service charge mailbox in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Acknowledge all enquiries from residents promptly.
  • Attend face-to-face meetings with residents to resolve disputes when necessary.
  • Support the rent team with any service charge queries, including those from local authorities.
  • Adapt and manage change in a challenging environment.
  • Ensure compliance with the organisation’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy and relevant legislation.
  • Promote and comply with the organisation’s Health & Safety policy and legislation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Understanding of Landlord and Tenant legislation and best practices, with detailed knowledge of aspects that relate to service charges.
  • Knowledge of the application of service charges in the social housing sector.
  • Excellent communication skills for dealing with customer enquiries, both written and verbally.
  • Good numeracy skills and proven Excel skills for handling, manipulating, and checking large volumes of data.
