The Illuminate team are delighted to working exclusively with the wonderful Tommy's to identify a Head of Research! This role comes at an exciting time with a new strategy and delivering against it to reach their goals. We need an exceptional and motivated individual to lead their research function. The post holder will ensure that the £2 million annual research spend funds the best work. You will lead funding, governance, public and patient involvement and work closely with the Director for Research, Programmes and Impact to support strategic delivery.

The Head of Research will understand the research landscape and the processes required for research funding and governance. They must also understand the role that the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) has in supporting this. The post holder will be a strong communicator who can build relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, and work effectively to deadlines and under pressure.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Research programme management
  • Internal and external relations with the maternal health scientific community
  • Financial management of a large budget including preparation, planning and review
  • Leading patient involvement ensuring that public and patient involvement is embedded throughout their research programmes.
  • Develop and implement an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategy for research development
  • Managing the peer review process for research proposals to ensure rigorous evaluation and selection of highest-quality research projects.
