The Role:The Research and Insight Manager will manage the Research and Insight Team (R&I Team), coordinating, conducting and delivering research and analysis to maintain and build specialist understanding of the markets, sectors and customers served by PIB’s Underwriting and Schemes Division (U&S) and identifying new opportunities in existing and potential markets.Responsibilities: Team ManagementThe Research and Insight Manager will lead the R&I Team. In collaboration with the Marketing Director they will set the overall objectives for the R&I Team and be accountable for ensuring their delivery, prioritising work according to business needs and available resources. They will provide line management to Research and Insight Executives, supporting their work, career development and professional needs. Where necessary they will undertake robust recruitment processes to ensure the team remains appropriately resourced.Research and InsightThe Research and Insight Manager will coordinate and conduct the work of the R&I Team to maintain and build specialist understanding of the markets, sectors and customers served by U&S. They will exercise commercial judgement in selecting and designing research projects, and in ensuring the conclusions they deliver inform and support business strategy.Working closely with the Marketing Team, as well as teams within the U&S Brands, regular tasks will include maintaining watching briefs on existing sectors and customer segments, regularly reporting key developments and providing analysis to inform business decisions and ongoing strategy. From time to time, they may also identify and investigate potential new markets for S&A products, building detailed profiles including, for example, market size, competitive landscape, customer demographics, market trends, regulatory impacts, internal culture, ESG matters and other relevant information. In addition, they may be assigned to provide research and insight capabilities to specific projects and initiatives.Where beneficial, they will use their knowledge and expertise to recommend and implement new systems and processes to enhance U&S’s research and insight capability. Strategic Analysis and DeliveryThe Research and Insight Manager will utilise the research delivered by the R&I Team to provide clear strategic analysis to Leadership, Project Teams and others as required. They will ensure analysis is action focussed, drawing out key insights and making strategic recommendations for action based on sound commercial judgement and peer feedback.Deliverables will include regular reports, presentations, articles and external facing-content, with the key outcome of helping the U&S define its ongoing strategy.AdministrationThe Research and Insight Manager may from time to time be asked to perform general administrative tasks and other ad-hoc duties. The Research and Insight Executive must ensure compliance with PIB Group processes and procedures at all times.Experience:
  • Educated to degree level in a subject with a strong social research component, or equivalent experience.
  • Educated to postgraduate level in a subject with a strong social research component, or equivalent experience. (Desirable)
  • 7+ years’ Experience of working in a research, analysis or insight role, ideally within insurance, financial services or related industries.
  • 3+ years’ Experience leading market research, analysis or insight team.
  • Track record of producing actionable research and analysis that led to strategic success.
  • Experience of conducting both secondary (desk) and primary research.
  • Experience producing high quality written work for both internal and external audiences.
  • Experience of working within one or more of the sectors associated with PIB Schemes and Affinities brands.
  • Experience of public speaking such as at conferences, seminars etc.
  • Experience of project management.
