We are looking for an assistant manager for Chishuru, our modern west African restaurant led by chef Joké Bakare. We won a Michelin star in February 2024, and placed #31 in this year's National Restaurant Awards, where Joké was also named Chef of the Year.
We have a 53-cover restaurant in Fitzrovia, just five minutes' walk from Oxford Circus tube. The restaurant trades Monday to Friday only, both lunch and dinner. We offer a set menu only, alongside a short, bespoke cocktail list and a wine list made up exclusively of low intervention French wines. We're lucky to get media coverage from all over the world, and so we get lots of overseas visitors.
This is a floor-based role, and we are looking for someone multi-talented who can run the door, sell wine, work a section or lead a busy 90 cover service. We are looking for someone warm and friendly who can be patient with all the questions we get about the food from our lovely customers - we are not a fine dining restaurant and we're not looking for someone stiff and formal.
You must have at least two years' experience intable servicerestaurantsto apply please; we are not looking for people who have only worked in pubs, hotels or clubs.
We will consider candidates who are not currently in an assistant manager role, but you must have had a position of responsibility (such as supervisor).
You don't need to be a wine expert, but some wine knowledge is essential for this role (something like WSET level 2 would be good) - this will be tested at interview stage.
Familiarity with west African cuisine would be very helpful but is not essential.
The quoted salary is inclusive of expected service charge and will increase during busy periods, for a working week of 42 hours over seven shifts. We offer the usual benefits, and we don't ask our people to work unpaid overtime. And maybe most importantly we serve great staff meals.
