About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our team on a temporary basis, with the opportunity for permanent employment based on performance. This role is crucial in maintaining and enhancing the beauty and functionality of our outdoor spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, edging, and trimming lawns
- Plant and maintain flowers, trees, and shrubs
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pest control treatments as directed
- Operate and maintain grounds keeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers
- Remove litter and debris from landscapes, walkways, and parking areas
- Perform basic irrigation system maintenance and adjustments
- Assist in the installation of hardscaping features like paths or retaining walls
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with health and safety regulations
- Report any issues or potential hazards to the supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance or a related field
- Knowledge of plants, landscaping techniques, and grounds keeping equipment
- Ability to operate powered grounds maintenance equipment safely
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour outdoors in various weather conditions
- Valid driving licence
- Basic understanding of health and safety practices in grounds maintenance
Desired Skills
- Horticultural qualifications or relevant certifications
- Experience with sustainable landscaping practices
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and basic repairs
- Ability to read and interpret landscape plans
