Are you looking to work in the Education sector? We are seeking a dedicated Finance Assistant to support our client's team of five accountants in the education sector and School Environment. This role is integral to maintaining and operating financial procedures and systems, ensuring the smooth running of the financial accounting and ordering systems. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure transactions are processed efficiently and VAT is accounted for correctly.
Day-to-day of the role:- Operate and maintain financial procedures and systems.
- Assist the Finance Manager in ensuring financial accounting and ordering systems are in place.
- Process financial transactions efficiently and accurately.
- Ensure VAT is accounted for within all financial transactions.
- Support the management of the school’s accounting function.
- Assist in resolving problems related to ordering, processing, and payments.
- Assist with the finance income function and maintain internal control procedures.
- Ensure accounting standards are met.
- Receive and reconcile cash and cheques for various income items.
- Maintain the school’s fixed asset register.
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of designated staff.
- Must have experience working within a finance function in the public sector/not-for-profit sector
- Ability to undertake financial accounting, reporting and record keeping
- PS Financials and SIMS Software (Desirable but not essential)
- Proven experience in a finance assistant role or similar.
- Strong understanding of financial procedures and systems.
- Ability to process financial transactions accurately.
- Knowledge of VAT accounting.
- Competency in managing accounting functions and internal controls.
- Problem-solving skills, particularly in ordering and payment processing.
- Experience in handling and reconciling cash transactions.
- Familiarity with maintaining fixed asset registers.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage designated staff.
