Are you ready to take the next step in your teaching career? We are seeking an experienced and dedicated 2iC (Second in Charge) of English to join our vibrant English department in Brent. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead, innovate, and make a meaningful impact on students' academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Subject Coordinator, playing a pivotal role in leading the English department to outstanding levels of teaching and learning.
  • Be responsible for student progress and attainment across KS3, KS4, and KS5, ensuring all students meet their achievement targets.
  • Develop and implement strategies to continuously improve teaching standards within the department.
  • Ensure that all school policies and procedures are followed consistently within the department.
  • Lead and manage teaching and support staff, ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Drive literacy development within the department to enhance student outcomes across the school.

Core Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the strategic planning and operational management of the department, including curriculum development, assessment policies, and teaching strategies.
  • Ensure the subject curriculum is delivered effectively, and in line with budget considerations.
  • Assist in the recruitment, development, and management of a motivated team of teaching staff.
  • Oversee student outcomes, supporting the director with target setting, monitoring progress, and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Act as a form tutor, supporting the pastoral care and wellbeing of students.
  • Lead by example as an outstanding classroom teacher, demonstrating best practices in teaching and learning.

What We're Looking For

  • Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent, along with a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Have at least one year of teaching experience with a track record of raising student achievement.
  • Demonstrate strong ICT skills and experience using educational technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Have a background in curriculum innovation and a solid understanding of how to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes.
  • Be experienced in implementing and embedding assessment for learning and student-centred teaching strategies.
  • Show proven ability in raising teaching standards and delivering outstanding lessons.
