Cover Supervisor

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Cover Supervisor to join a Good Academy in the borough of Newham.

The School

This large academy based in the heart of Newham is currently looking to recruit an experienced Cover Supervisor to join their team ASAP. The successful Head Teacher together with his very forward-thinking Senior Leadership Team are fully focused on achieving the best possible educational outcomes for their pupils. There is a big emphasis on ensuring that pupils achieve their goals by making sure that they are taught by skilled specialist teachers who really know their subjects. Staff are encouraged to plan together, and this will involve both teaching and support staff affiliated with each department. There are high expectations of teaching staff to ensure that the lessons they are delivering are of a good standard, as the more engaging the lesson, the more likely the children will behave well.

Their most recent Ofsted states 'The staff have shaped an inclusive and welcoming school environment where pupils are safe and feel safe. Teachers typically deliver lessons that engage and motivate students to learn. All staff understand the schools vision and they are committed to the school community.'

Cover Supervisor

This large Secondary School based in the heart of Newham are looking to recruit an experienced Cover Supervisor to join their team. This role would suit someone with experience of working within a Secondary School, who is looking to gain more experience before going on to begin their teacher training. The successful candidate would be responsible for covering classes across all secondary year groups, and to deliver cover lessons up to GCSE standard. You will be required to provide short-term absence cover as directed by the Cover Operator. You will support the education and welfare of pupils as directed by class teachers. You may be required to cover lessons that are not within your specialism, so the ability to adapt in different situations is essential in this role.

The position is to start ASAP.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • To attend team and staff meetings
  • To be part of a pastoral team including being a form tutor if required
  • To uphold the schools disciplinary rules and staff code of conduct
  • To follow the schools health and safety requirements
  • To be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and to follow the relevant policies and procedures
  • To contribute to the maintenance of a caring and stimulating environment for young people
  • To always act in accordance with the statutory frameworks that set out how the school must operate
  • To supervise classes during short-term teacher absence as well as breaks and/or lunchtimes if required
  • To liaise with Heads of Departments to ensure that appropriate work is set for classes
  • To supervise the work that has been set
  • To respond to any questions from pupils about process and procedures within their level of competence
  • To ensure good behaviour in the classroom in accordance with schools policies
  • To cover registration if required

Other duties and responsibilities will be required.
