You will work as part of a team of Physical Education faculty responsible for providing a concept-based Well-being program that focuses on developing the movement skills, social-emotional skills and understanding for developing a lifelong learner.

Brief summary of major responsibilities:

  • Teach regular physical education lessons and health lessons to children in High School
  • Assist in the development of a sound research-based well-being curriculum that includes health and PE
  • Plan and deliver a program of concept-based experiences that enhances students’ holistic development
  • Communicate and liaise on a regular basis with fellow team/ department members with regard to planning, assessment, parent and community contact, subject organization and classroom issues including expectations and routines
  • Communicate and liaise with other educators in an effort to promote and establish transdisciplinary connections
  • Attend and contribute constructively to staff and department meetings
  • Maintain up-to-date records of assessment, attendance, planning, reports, conferences, and communication with parents
  • Establish links with our parent community to ensure that parents are kept well informed about student progress
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to new developments in the field.

Essential qualifications/experience:

  • A bachelor's degree
  • Substantive experience as a PE and Health and/or Wellbeing teacher
  • Experience in a school with a similar teaching philosophy to that of ASL, which employs comparable teaching methods and curricula, or to have received training that will adequately prepare the candidate for the pedagogy employed at the School
  • Significant recent professional development
  • Training and experience in cultural competency initiatives to support diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom, department and workplace
  • Excellent computer skills and integration of technology into the curriculum
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding collaborative skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment
  • The ability to contribute towards a safe environment and show a personal commitment to safeguarding children.

Desirable qualifications/experience:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Previous teaching experience in K-12 settings
  • Willingness to coach a School sports team
