About The Role:
As a Secondary SEMH Maths Teacher, you will deliver an engaging and adaptable Mathematics curriculum designed to meet the needs of students with SEMH challenges, behavioural difficulties and additional learning needs. You will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive learning environment, enabling students to re-engage with education and develop essential numeracy skills.
Responsibilities of Secondary SEMH Maths Teacher:
- Plan and deliver differentiated and engaging Mathematics lessons that cater to students’ varying abilities and learning styles.
- Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that encourages students to develop confidence in their mathematical abilities.
- Implement individual learning plans (ILPs) to support students' academic, emotional and behavioural needs.
- Utilise practical and real-world applications to make Mathematics relevant and accessible.
- Support students in developing problem-solving, critical thinking and resilience in their learning.
- Collaborate with pastoral teams, SENCOs and external professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
- Establish positive and trusting relationships with students, promoting engagement and motivation.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing personalised feedback and targeted interventions as necessary.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures, prioritising student well-being and safety.
The successful candidate will:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level.
- Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or special educational needs.
- A deep understanding of differentiated instruction, de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed teaching.
- Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, patient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, fostering trust and engagement.
- Experience in alternative provisions, PRUs, or SEN settings is highly advantageous.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
