GSL Education are seeking a compassionate Pastoral Teaching Assistant with Personal Care to join a supportive secondary school in Whitechapel as a Maternity Cover. The Role:

As a Pastoral Teaching Assistant, you will be instrumental in supporting students' emotional, social, and academic development. Working closely with the staff, you will contribute to a positive and inclusive atmosphere while helping students navigate challenges. You will also provide personal care support to students, ensuring their comfort and safety during the school day.

Pastoral Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students, focusing on their emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, and dressing, in a sensitive and dignified manner.
  • Support students in building positive relationships with peers and staff, fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour and emotional support plans.
  • Contribute to the creation and monitoring of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with specific needs.
  • Ensure that students feel safe, supported, and valued within the school environment.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of tailored lessons and activities for students according to the school’s key stages.
  • Track and report on students’ progress, providing feedback to teachers, parents, and the pastoral team.
  • Follow all safeguarding protocols to ensure students’ safety and wellbeing at all times.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required to enhance skills and support students effectively.

Requirements needed for a Pastoral Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children, particularly in a pastoral support role like Pastoral Teaching Assistant and personal care in an educational setting, is essential.
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach, with a commitment to supporting students’ individual needs.
  • Ability to assist with personal care tasks respectfully and professionally.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding procedures and a dedication to ensuring student safety.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
