Job Description:

They are looking to appoint a passionate and motivated EAL Teaching Assistant to work alongside our dedicated teaching staff. The successful candidate will support students for whom English is an additional language, ensuring they have equal access to the curriculum and can participate fully in school life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with EAL students, identifying language needs and providing tailored support.
  • Assist in the delivery of targeted intervention programmes to help students develop their English language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
  • Collaborate with class teachers to adapt lessons and resources for EAL learners.
  • Promote the social and emotional development of EAL students, helping them integrate into the school community.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to EAL students, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Track progress and report to teachers and the EAL coordinator on the performance and engagement of EAL students.
  • Assist in planning and preparing teaching materials for EAL students.
  • Liaise with parents/carers and other professionals where appropriate.
Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with English as an additional language.
  • A good understanding of language acquisition and EAL needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A compassionate, patient, and nurturing approach to supporting young learners.

Desirable:

  • A relevant qualification in TESOL, CELTA, or a similar discipline.
  • Previous experience in a school setting.
  • Familiarity with EAL intervention strategies and resources.
  • Multilingual skills.
