Freemasons Hall seeks a Bar Supervisor & Events Coordinator. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our Bar and Café team in a hybrid capacity. This position is ideal for someone early in their career who is eager to learn, grow, and develop within the events and/or hospitality industry.

Background

Freemasons' Hall, located in Covent Garden, is a historic art deco building with roots dating back to 1769. Completed in 1933 as a memorial to those who died in the Great War, it houses 22 meeting rooms and serves as the global headquarters for English Freemasonry. The Hall is open to both Freemasons and the public, offering tours and housing the Museum of Freemasonry with its world-renowned collection of masonic artefacts.

Main duties

  • Assist in the management of the Bar and Café in the managers absence, placing orders and leading the team.
  • Lead exceptional service in both the bar and café areas, including taking orders, preparing beverages, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all customers.
  • Act as a central coordinator for drinks receptions, promotional and seasonal events, and informal dining events within our Grade-2 Listed, Art Deco venue. This includes planning, organizing, and executing events to meet the highest standards.
  • Continuously enhance your knowledge of food and beverage preparation methods, while identifying opportunities to offer additional products and services that can enhance customer experience.

Supervisorial Responsibilities

Proactively work to ensure the smooth running of the business in the managers absence, including placing/processing orders and weekly banking

Effectively organising and leading a team and independently making judgement calls which align with the businesss needs and capabilities

Helping to ensure staff are effectively trained in and adhere to company procedures

To assist the Café and Bar Manager with day-to-day operations.

Communication and Coordination

  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external customers to understand and fulfil event requirements.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including room setup, ordering food and beverages, and managing supplies to ensure successful event execution.

Marketing and Promotion

  • Promote events and create marketing materials to drive attendance and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Bar and Café Manager to develop and execute engaging seasonal promotions

Supplier Management

  • Liaise with existing suppliers to procure necessary items, and research and establish relationships with new suppliers to ensure a diverse and high-quality selection of products.

Financial Management

  • Process payments and invoices accurately and efficiently, maintaining records of all financial transactions.
  • Monitor event budgets and expenses, ensuring cost-effective solutions are implemented without compromising quality.
  • Assist in stock and product-line management where necessary to assist the Bar/café manager

Feedback and Improvement

  • Develop and implement a feedback process for events to gather insights and identify areas for improvement.
  • Act on feedback received to enhance the quality of future events and customer satisfaction.

Compliance

  • Follow, and ensure others are following, all health and safety standards diligently to maintain a safe environment for both staff and customers, including maintaining up-to-date records on menu allergens.

Additional Duties

  • Provide bar and café service, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the business, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties as directed by your line manager to support the overall goals and smooth operation of the café and events.

Skills and experience

Experience required

Proven leadership and organisational skills with the ability to work under your own initiative.

Proven interpersonal skills and ability to develop good internal relationships with colleagues

Skills & Abilities

Ability to think creatively and pragmatically, whilst driving improvement and change in a busy environment

Collaborative approach to problem solving

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Computer literate with good word processing and Excel skills and experience of using databases, EPOS and stock control systems.



Hours of work

Full time 35 hours per week
