Job Overview

An exciting opportunity is now available to join the council to work on the development of our freight programme as part of our dynamic and ground-breaking Transport Strategy team. This work is central to the borough’s bold ambitions to create a cleaner, greener and healthier borough to make our streets a place everyone can enjoy and to tackle climate change. This role will focus primarily on leading the roll out of our freight programme, collaborating with the council’s teams and our strategic partners to deliver projects and initiatives that will reduce the impacts of freight activity in the borough.

Main duties of the job

The council has a target to reduce freight traffic in the borough including a reduction of 10% in the morning peak by 2026, with further targets to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2030. The role will focus on leading the roll out of the projects and initiatives that will support delivery of our freight objectives and targets.

You will be responsible for delivering the council’s emerging Freight Action Plan including engaging with teams across council departments, residents, local businesses and strategic partners to implement freight initiatives. Areas of focus will include delivery of shared use cargo bikes schemes, reviewing the potential implementation of parcel lockers in the borough, use of the Camden/Islington freight consolidation centre, and working with businesses to consider the impacts of their deliveries on the environment.

The role requires excellent written communications skills to prepare reports, briefings for members, present information at board meetings, respond to resident and stakeholder queries and prepare supplier specifications/briefs and tender documents.

You will ensure your work area is managed in accordance with all relevant policies, legislation and procedures as well as overseeing programme governance, project delivery, research, performance management and reporting.

You will be the principal point of contact and engage effectively with a wide range of key stakeholders using proven project management and communication skills, working collaboratively to successfully develop and deliver your projects.
