About Us
At New River College, we are dedicated to ensuring children and young people are safe, can overcome challenges, and form secure, meaningful relationships through childhood and beyond. Our Early Help Family Support Services, part of the Bright Start and Early Help Family Support initiatives, work to support families across three localities in Islington, building resilience and improving long-term outcomes for children and their communities.

Our Pupil Referral Units provide essential education and support to pupils aged 5-16 with social, emotional, and mental health challenges (SEMH), including those permanently excluded or at risk of exclusion. We take a proactive, preventative approach to addressing barriers to learning and personal development.

About the Role
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Family Support Practitioner to join our team. In this role, you will work directly with families of children attending New River College and liaise with universal services to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to support children and their families.

Your work will involve:

  • Managing a caseload of families with multiple and complex needs.
  • Providing direct, hands-on support to families, addressing issues and building resilience.
  • Collaborating with families and multi-agency partners to complete whole-family assessments and create tailored support plans.
  • Facilitating smooth transitions for children moving to or from New River College and mainstream schools.
  • Promoting positive outcomes by reducing family stressors and strengthening family resilience.

About You
You will be someone who is passionate about working with children, young people, and families, with a proven track record in providing effective family support. You will also have:

  • Experience working with families with complex and diverse needs.
  • Knowledge of whole-family assessments and early intervention approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and positive relationships with families and partner agencies.
  • Familiarity with social, emotional, and mental health challenges faced by children and young people.
  • A proactive, compassionate approach, with a commitment to improving outcomes for families.
