We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Key Worker based in Highbury.

Our client is a housing association that strongly believes in maximising the social value of buildings for the benefit of people and communities, they are working to create places of safety and quality where people can go to find their way through life and society.

The role of a Key Worker is to contribute to the supervision of people residing at KPH within prescribed policy and practice by monitoring and recording accurately on logs and databases. To promote peoples’ equality, diversity and rights and assist in creating a healthy, safe and effective day to day environment and in the provision of care and supervision to residents 24 hours a day.

The post requires experience of working with vulnerable people and an understanding of residential setting. The Key Worker must adhere to the policies in respect of the confidential nature of the information access whilst working in this position.

Candidates must be able to work a shift rota that will involve working on the weekends.

Location: Katherine Price Hughes House, Highbury

Contract: 3 months initially with chance of extension

Work hours: Full time (36.5 hours a week)

Salary: £15.40 PAYE or £21 Umbrella

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Welcome and induct new residents, ensuring they understand their rights and responsibilities.
  • Provide emotional and practical support while monitoring resident behaviour.
  • Collaborate with agencies like MAPPA, the Probation Service, and Jigsaw Team to deliver sentence plans and ensure adherence to license conditions.
  • Manage a caseload of 20 residents, conducting regular keywork and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with license requirements and address any infringements in line with legislation and procedures.
  • Apply safeguarding legislation (e.g., Care Act, Mental Capacity Act) effectively.
  • Promote a culture of openness, caring curiosity, and adherence to safeguarding policies.
  • Design and deliver engaging programs to support residents' personal development, mental health, housing needs, and independent living skills.
  • Act as a Single Point of Contact for a specific area of interest to enhance purposeful activities.
  • Participate in team meetings, handovers, and reflective practices, and represent the service at internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records and share information appropriately.
  • Prepare reports for Offender Managers, Courts, and MAPPA as required.
  • Ensure contingency plans are up-to-date and effective.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and maintain high-quality service delivery.
  • Adhere to equal opportunity, health and safety, and professional conduct policies.
  • Participate in training to stay updated on best practices and developments in the field.

Person Specification

  • Degree-level qualification in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or significant, relevant experience in a related field.
  • Proven experience working directly with vulnerable individuals in a busy residential or support service.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and support individuals with challenging behaviour.
  • Experience liaising proactively and effectively with a wide range of people and agencies.
  • Awareness of the causes of offending and a good understanding of how the Criminal Justice System operates.
  • A commitment to empowering individuals to make positive life changes.
  • Knowledge and experience in at least two areas relevant to the role (e.g., mental health, substance misuse, housing, or independent living skills).
  • Awareness of challenging behaviours residents may exhibit and strategies for managing such behaviours.
  • Understanding of: The importance of confidentiality in professional settings and Maintaining professional boundaries in all interactions.
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion in both service delivery and the workplace.
  • Knowledge of good Health and Safety practices.
  • Appreciation for the role of the faith-based voluntary sector in criminal justice work.
  • Ability to manage a caseload with consistent resident engagement and high levels of contact.
  • Genuine interest in supporting individuals with offending histories to make meaningful changes.
  • Skilled in monitoring progress and maintaining accurate, concise records (both written and numerical).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly when dealing with individuals who may exhibit challenging or aggressive behaviour.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems effectively.
  • Proficiency in IT and the ability to meet deadlines while ensuring accuracy.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Flexibility to work outside of scheduled shifts when needed.
