Thriving SEMH Provision located in the London Borough of Lewisham seeking a dedicated and experienced Behaviour PE Support Assistant or Behaviour Mentor / Youth Worker / SEN Support Worker to join their SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health). Â Â This is a part time position to start straight away!
The successful Behaviour PE Support Assistant / Behaviour Mentor will support students with SEMH and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) needs, providing tailored 1:1 assistance, particularly in physical education (PE) and sports activities. Your role will be crucial in helping students manage their behaviour, engage positively in PE sessions, and develop their social and physical skills. Class sizes are small, typically up to 5 children per class with additional 1:1 Behaviour Support Staff.
Children who attend this provision come from a disadvantaged background, some of whom are LAC and other pupils who have been diagnosed with diverse needs. The provision has a Christian ethos and as such support their children and young people in a non judgemental way. All new staff must be respectful of the Christian ethos.
You will be able to support with PE sports such as football, Basketball, Tennis or badminton to children KS3 & 4 levels.
- Have worked in a similar position as either a Behaviour PE Support Assistant or Behaviour Mentor / Youth Worker / SEN Support Worker in an educational setting
- In date enhanced DBS
- Provide 1:1 support to students with SEMH and ASD during PE and sports activities.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of PE lessons and sports activities that cater to the diverse needs of students.
- Implement strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviour and promote positive behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student development.
- Encourage and motivate students to participate actively in physical activities.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students.
- Support the emotional and social development of students through structured activities and intervention
- Experience working with children and young people with SEMH and ASD needs.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies.
- Ability to provide effective 1:1 support to students.
- Knowledge of PE and sports, with the ability to assist in the delivery of physical education sessions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with children with additional needs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications in education, SEN support, or sports coaching are desirable.
