Our client, a London Borough Council, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Senior Youth Worker to join their team. With a commitment to providing a diverse programme of free opportunities and support for young people aged 11 to 19 (25 with SEND) across East London, our client aims to make a positive impact on the lives of young people and empower them to have a voice and influence on services.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, develop, and deliver projects that address a range of youth issues, such as health, bullying, transitions, sexuality/gender, crime, gangs, or drugs.
  • Plan and organise community and social events for young people.
  • Design and implement activity programmes that engage young people in informal educational and recreational activities, including sports, arts, and drama.
  • Assess and address the health, social, and emotional needs of young people.
  • Collaborate with professionals, stakeholders, and the community to ensure the success of youth programmes.

Essential Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Minimum Level 3 NVQ JNC recognised Youth Support Worker qualification.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Sensitivity and understanding of the current challenges and needs of young people.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Attention to detail and a can-do attitude.
  • Active listening skills and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Objectivity, impartiality, and accountability.
  • Technological proficiency, including knowledge of the Microsoft suite and databases.

Desirable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Experience and qualifications working with vulnerable young people, such as young carers or those with SEND.
  • Proficiency in Bengali or Somali languages.
