NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - FULL TRAINING PROVIDED

Whilst some experience of working in Residential Childcare is preferred, this is not essential, and full training will be provided for the right candidate.

SALARY: ÂŁ13.15 per hour

LOCATION: Stepney Green, East London - 100% site based. The role may require providing support at more than one location

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Day and Night shift availability - This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early mornings, late evenings and waking nights. The post holder is also required to work weekends as part of a rota and Bank Holidays when required.

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Support Workerwith excellent communication skills, a calm and approachable manner and the motivation to work therapeutically with children in a residential setting forming positive relationships.

As the Support Worker you will support the effective care of the Children in the home by carrying out duties assigned by the Leadership Team.

The key responsibility for the Support Worker is to assist in the delivery of an outstanding therapeutically informed service for the Children. The role may be required to support more than one service depending on business needs.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Support Workerwill include:

  • Report any issues regarding Child Protection matters
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and be aware of relevant policies and procedures
  • Ensure all relevant documents on shift are completed, this includes incident forms, accident forms, safeguarding concerns, restraint forms
  • Report any Health and Safety issues particularly related to the upkeep of the building and its surroundings
  • Update children’s relevant plans and personal files and liaise with children’s social workers and internal staff to ensure information is shared and recorded appropriately
  • Ensure the duty rotas are complied with
  • Undertake all mandatory training and any other training as deemed appropriate
  • Ensure education attendance is supported for each child or young person
  • Share the responsibility for creating a pleasant and clean working environment
  • Support children in practical matters within the home e.g. (cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene etc.)
  • Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to children
  • Provide a positive, caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which children can feel safe, secure and free from harm
  • Empower children to have an active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future
  • Encouraging children to develop links with the community, attend off-site activities and expand their personal social network
  • Act as an advocate at meetings where the child is the subject of discussion
  • Contribute to Clinical Assessments for Children
  • Contribute to the effective receiving, recording and storing of information
  • Accompany children to meetings, appointments and other appropriate activities as agreed in care plans
  • Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Requirements

  • A motivation to work therapeutically with Children
  • To be available for sleep-in duties if required
  • IT Literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to form positive relationships with children
  • Ability to participate in a range of activities with enthusiasm in the context of the role
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Commitment to continued professional and personal development
  • Calm, approachable manner, adaptable and non-judgemental
  • Ability to form relationships and understand the importance of mutual interdependence and responsibility to others
  • Commitment to valuing and contributing to diversity and anti-racist practice
  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative and flexible approach to work in other location, duties and hours

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous experience working in Residential Childcare
  • Able to drive with a clear Driving Licence
  • Experience working in a Therapeutic provision
  • Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce/Children’s Residential Diploma (achieved or currently undertaking)
