We are currently recruiting for a Pensions Officer on behalf of our public sector client based in East London.

This is a temporary contract initially for 3-6 months with view for further extension. The hourly rate is 21.89 per hour PAYE or 28.06 per hour Umbrella.

The successful applicant will have experience of the Local Government Pension Scheme or similar public sector pension scheme.

  • Promote and publicise details and benefits of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Calculate and verify the various benefits of the LGPS for fund members
  • Calculate and verify the costs to the Pension Fund of any early retirements under the LGPS
  • Calculate and verify redundancy payments to LGPS members, members of the Teachers Pension Scheme or non-members
  • Provide the employer function of the duties of the Teachers Pension Scheme
  • Provide a general pensions information service to all staff
  • Process and pay refunds of contributions, including deductions for tax and national insurance
  • Process death benefits (both in lump and monthly payments) and ensure that prompt payment is made to the estate, beneficiaries, spouse children and any other eligible dependents
  • Process transfers to and from the Council's pension scheme and other pension schemes
  • Write letters and deal with correspondence and queries on a variety of pension and related manners

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience of the Local Government Pension Scheme or similar public sector pension scheme
  • Experience of pensions systems
  • Experience of completing member pensions, transfer values, death grants, lumps sums and refunds
