  Role Overview:

As a Housing Officer, you will play an integral role in managing tenancies, resolving housing issues, and supporting our tenants in maintaining their homes. You will be the first point of contact for residents and will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service, ensuring compliance with housing policies and regulations, and working collaboratively with other departments to address the needs of the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tenancy Management: Manage a portfolio of social housing properties, including rent collection, tenancy agreements, renewals, and dealing with breaches of tenancy.
  • Customer Service: Act as the primary point of contact for tenants, addressing their concerns, resolving complaints, and offering advice and guidance on housing-related matters.
  • Repairs and Maintenance: Coordinate and monitor maintenance requests, ensuring timely and effective responses to repairs, and ensuring properties meet safety and quality standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure tenants comply with tenancy agreements and local housing regulations. Maintain up-to-date records of tenancy details and related documentation.
  • Housing Support: Provide assistance to tenants in accessing additional services, including welfare benefits, housing support, and referral to appropriate local services or charities.
  • Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with tenants, encourage involvement in community initiatives, and promote local events or programs that foster positive community spirit.
  • Rent Arrears and Financial Management: Monitor rent payments, manage arrears, and support tenants in managing their payments through payment plans and referrals to financial support services when needed.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that all housing properties meet required health and safety standards, carrying out regular property inspections as required.
Key Requirements:
  • Experience: Experience in social housing or property management is preferred, but not essential. A strong background in customer service or a related field is beneficial.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of social housing legislation, tenancy management, and housing benefit systems.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Able to communicate clearly and empathetically with tenants, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong time management skills with the ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Team Player: Collaborative approach, working effectively with colleagues across departments to ensure tenant satisfaction.
  • IT Skills: Competence in using housing management software and standard office software (Word, Excel, etc.).
