About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our Allocations and Temporary Accommodation Service. You will play a vital role in managing a range of temporary accommodations, including council, registered provider, private sector leased, and emergency overnight placements. You will also provide tenancy and support services to homeless households, ensuring their accommodation is suitable, safe, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor temporary accommodation units, ensuring properties are maintained to high standards.
  • Conduct regular visits to accommodation units, advising tenants on rent payments, tenancy conditions, repairs, and utilities.
  • Provide ongoing tenancy management and support to vulnerable households, including those with additional needs.
  • Liaise with external agencies, support services, and statutory bodies to ensure appropriate referrals and interventions.
  • Manage rent collection, arrears recovery, and ensure compliance with housing benefit requirements.
  • Address breaches of tenancy conditions, including anti-social behaviour and unauthorised occupation.
  • Handle safeguarding concerns in accordance with council procedures, working collaboratively with relevant agencies.
  • Maintain accurate case records and reports, and respond to complaints and enquiries within target timescales.
  • Participate in out-of-hours rota, responding to homelessness emergencies and accommodation issues.

About You:The successful candidate will possess:

  • A strong understanding of housing legislation, homelessness law, and tenancy rights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable individuals and providing housing-related support.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a demanding and varied caseload.
  • The ability to work effectively with partner agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and procedures for children and adults.
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service and upholding equal opportunities.
