Location: London Bridge

Salary: ivo £34k  per annum, dependent on experience.

Hours: 0900 - 1700 five days a week but willing to consider flexibility around those hours.

About us:

The UK Chamber of Shipping is the trade association and voice for the UK shipping industry, with over 200 members from across the maritime sector. We work with Government, Parliament, international organisations and others to champion and protect the UK shipping industry on behalf of our members.

We are looking for an individual to support the policy team at the UK Chamber of Shipping.

Responsibilities of the Policy Advisor:

To support the Environment team, Committee and Working Groups with engagement on environmental issues. The work involves identification of key policy areas for the Chamber to develop expertise and lobbying as well as coordination and production of responses to Government consultations. The role will support the development of policy updates, agendas, minutes and consultation circulars for Chamber members as well as provide support in organising meetings, workshops, and events. The role will also interact with government departments and other relevant agencies and organisations to represent the views of the members and influence them to develop or reform existing policy.

Requirements of the Policy Advisor:

Essential

Have a degree in environmental studies or related to environmental science or policy. Have an understanding of the development, implementation, and enforcement of shipping  environmental policies. Have keen analytical skills and ability to read and interpret consultations and scientific papers. Good written and oral communications in order both to explain regulatory developments to members and to represent their interests convincingly to Government and elsewhere.

Desirable

Degree in shipping or maritime business Postgraduate qualifications Experience of engaging with Government and other regulatory organisations. Detailed in-depth knowledge of relevant policy areas
