Job Role: Safeguarding and Welfare OfficerLocation: NewhamEmployment Basis: Temporary, Full-Time/Part-TimeHourly Pay: £35We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Safeguarding and Welfare Officer to join our team in Newham. This is an essential role that focuses on ensuring the safety, well-being, and welfare of our students. As the Safeguarding and Welfare Officer, you will provide support, guidance, and intervention to safeguard students and promote a positive and secure learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Safeguarding: Monitor and address any safeguarding concerns involving students, ensuring that all cases are managed appropriately in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Student Welfare: Provide a point of contact for students experiencing welfare issues, offering guidance, support, and signposting to relevant services when necessary.
- Case Management: Work closely with students, staff, and external agencies to manage safeguarding and welfare cases, ensuring accurate documentation and follow-up action.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct welfare and safeguarding assessments for students in need of support, identifying risks and implementing strategies to mitigate potential harm.
- Training & Awareness: Deliver training and workshops to staff and students on safeguarding procedures, raising awareness of signs of abuse, neglect, and mental health concerns.
- Collaboration: Liaise with external agencies such as social services, healthcare providers, and law enforcement to ensure that students receive the support they need.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and confidential records of all safeguarding and welfare concerns, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
- A relevant qualification in safeguarding, social work, youth work, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a safeguarding or welfare role, ideally within an educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, including statutory requirements and local safeguarding protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work sensitively with students, staff, and external agencies.
- A compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting students in challenging situations.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and maintain detailed, confidential records.
- Experience working with vulnerable students, including those with mental health issues or learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in safeguarding and welfare.
- Ability to manage challenging situations and de-escalate conflicts effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and respond to student needs promptly.
- A proactive and student-centered approach, with a commitment to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment.
