Schools Finance Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Schools Finance Officer to join our client's team to play a key role in managing the financial operations of their school. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the effective running of a school while supporting the education of young people.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Finance Officer, you will assist in delivering a comprehensive finance service to the school. This includes maintaining financial systems, supporting budget management, and ensuring compliance with financial guidelines and statutory regulations.

You will also support facilities management by liaising with contractors, monitoring risk assessments, and ensuring the school environment is safe and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining and updating financial systems, ensuring accurate and timely records.
  • Support budget planning and monitoring, ensuring value for money and financial efficiency.
  • Prepare and process payments, invoices, and VAT returns, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
  • Oversee supplier accounts, reconcile statements, and manage school contracts.
  • Collaborate with the Site Manager and Headteacher to ensure the school environment is safe and efficient.
  • Contribute to year-end reconciliations, audits, and financial reporting.

Essential experience:

  • Previous finance experience within a school
  • Proven experience in financial management, including budget interpretation and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting processes and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain high levels of accuracy.

Desirable:

  • Diploma or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience working in an educational environment.
  • Knowledge of facilities management and Health and Safety.
