Senior Youth Worker

Introduction:

Young Tower Hamlets is our new youth service that has been created to provide a diverse programme of free opportunities and support for young people aged 11 to 19 (25 with SEND) across the borough.

We are looking for passionate individuals with a keen interest to work with and inspire young people, making a difference in their life, supporting them to have voice & influence on services and to engage in positive activities within a universal open access youth setting.

You will be a part of a team that provides year-round safe spaces across the borough, bringing a variety of different methods and skills that aid in planning, organising and delivering universal and targeted youth activities and programmes.

You will support/ manage in the planning and delivery of projects that focus on issues like health, bullying, transitions, sexuality/ gender, crime, gangs, or drugs including community and social events for the young people, help design and organise activity programmes that engage young people into informal educational programs and youth recreational activities such as sports, arts and drama whilst assessing young people's health, social and emotional requirements.

Skills and knowledge:

* Communication skills - presentation, verbal & written

* The ability to work well on own initiative and with others

* Sensitivity and understanding of young peoples current issues, challenges and needs

* Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations

* To have a 'can do' attitude, be thorough and pay attention to detail

* Demonstrate sincerity with active listening and a non-judgemental approach

Note: roles are in person / face to face direct delivery working with young people in a Universal Youth Work settings across Tower Hamlets and will involve indoor / outdoor including some weekend working, prior notice will be provided.

Qualifications & Experience: The following will be considered.

* You'll need a minimum of a Level 3 NVQ JNC recognised Youth Support Worker qualification

* In addition, candidates with experience and qualifications of working with vulnerable young people i.e. young carers, those with SEND and or can speak Bengali / Somali (Desirable) are encouraged to apply.

* Applications from candidates currently undertaking a formal qualification to work with young people.

* Applicants currently in Full Time/Part Time education will be considered for part time roles.

* Applications from candidates with a min of 2 years' experience of working with young people

CANDIDATES MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

* Enhanced DBS check

* Willingness to be flexible and travel in and around the borough.
