Substance Misuse Early Intervention Worker

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Substance Misuse Early Intervention Worker to support young people in making informed and healthy choices about substance use. This role is vital in helping to prevent substance misuse and reducing the associated harms for those already engaged in risky behaviours. Working within the Youth Development Service, you will deliver targeted interventions across various projects, including youth centres, schools, outreach programs, and mobile services such as the Youth Bus and Health and Well-being Bus.

This role requires experience in providing psychosocial and harm reduction interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interventions, to help young people stop or reduce their substance use. You will also provide advice and education on the risks associated with substance misuse, ensuring young people receive the support they need. A qualification in Youth Work or an equivalent professional qualification at NVQ Level 3 is required.

Flexibility is essential, as the role involves working during school hours, evenings, weekends, and holiday periods. You will be responsible for conducting substance misuse screenings, making referrals to specialist services, and maintaining a small caseload of young people who require structured care-planned interventions but may not yet be ready for formal treatment. A key aspect of the role is to ensure that referrals to treatment services are seamless, working closely with partner agencies to provide ongoing support.

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering both universal education and targeted interventions for young people at risk of substance misuse. Strong relationship-building skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams and agencies are essential. A valid driver's license would be an advantage, enabling the use of mobile outreach services to engage with young people in different community settings.

If you are passionate about making a difference in young people's lives and want to play a crucial role in shaping a healthier future for them, we would love to hear from you.
