Software Engineering Manager

£95,000 - £110,000 + Package
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you'll manage, optimise, and lead high-performing teams, ensuring delivery against business outcomes. You'll be responsible for operational governance and support for all strategic capabilities, including collaborating on technical strategy for modern engineering platforms and applications. The ideal candidate will have good software architecture skills from working on complex, distributed systems with the ability to bring modern engineering practices to our team, such as TDD, DevSecOps and Continuous Delivery.
What you'll be doing:
Responsibility for the building capability of the solutions teams and stability of the software solutions they produce and play a pivotal role in shaping its evolution Providing considered technical recommendations to stakeholders to balance conflicting requirements so ensuring maximum value to the business Influencing the long-term strategy for solution delivery and wider CIO Creating and sharing technical knowledge, tools and resources necessary to support growth Contributing to delivery ensuring the correct software decisions are made and reduce risk, remove issues and actively manage dependencies Working with architecture to support engineering input into architectural governance and design where required Line management including managing for high performance, understanding current talent mix and create career pathways Ensuring vendor skills and resources are applicable and appropriate to the outcomes and actively manage vendors for success
Experience
Strong understanding of software delivery, programming languages and modern architectural patterns Proven track record of leadership and strategic planning Recent back-end coding experience ideally .NET and/or Python Hands on experience of good software engineering practices e.g. TDD, Continuous Delivery, Dev/Sec/Ops Strong delivery experience, including programmatic principles, delivery leadership, leadership and cross team dependencies
