Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant with a passion for supporting Key Stage 2 pupils? Tradewind Recruitment is delighted to be working with a welcoming primary school in Leyton Midland Road, Waltham Forest, seeking a dedicated Mentor/Learning Support Assistant to join their Year 5 team from February 2025.
The Role:
This rewarding position involves providing targeted support to a small number of children in Year 5 with suspected ADHD and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support, helping pupils to focus and engage with their learning.
- Implement strategies to manage behaviour, build confidence, and support emotional regulation.
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored interventions that meet individual learning and social development needs.
- Foster a calm and structured learning environment where children feel supported and valued.
- Encourage positive social interactions and develop pupils' independence.
The Ideal Candidate:
The school is looking for a caring, proactive, and resilient individual who:
- Has experience supporting pupils in Key Stage 2, ideally in a mentoring, pastoral, or Learning Support Assistant role.
- Has an understanding of ADHD and SEMH needs, with strategies to support focus, emotional well-being, and behaviour management.
- Can build positive relationships with children, encouraging confidence and self-esteem.
- Is patient, adaptable, and able to respond to the needs of individual pupils.
- Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
