Milk Education are excited to be working with a wonderful primary school in Haringey, North London, who are looking to appoint an experienced and dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide support to a pupil in Key Stage 1 (KS1) with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The role will commence after the half-term break, and the school is looking for someone who has a passion for working with young learners and is committed to supporting their development and well-being.

In this role, you will be providing 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil who requires assistance with engaging in lessons, emotional regulation, and social interactions. You will play a key role in helping the child navigate their learning environment and develop crucial life skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with SEN, assisting with their learning during lessons and encouraging active participation in classroom activities.
  • Implement personalised learning strategies to support the pupil’s understanding, using visual aids, verbal prompts, and any other required resources to make the curriculum accessible.
  • Foster the pupil’s social and emotional development, providing support during break times and lunch periods to encourage positive interactions with peers and help manage any emotional challenges.
  • Work alongside the class teacher and other support staff to ensure a coordinated, inclusive approach to the pupil's education and well-being.
  • Assist in creating a positive, structured environment where the pupil feels safe, confident, and supported.
  • Maintain regular communication with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents regarding the pupil's progress and areas of development.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN), particularly in a KS1 setting.
  • A strong understanding of how to support children with learning difficulties and emotional/behavioral needs, and a creative, flexible approach to delivering tailored support.
  • Experience with using visual communication aids and other SEN-specific strategies to help children access the curriculum.
  • Patient, empathetic, and calm with a natural ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children.
  • Capable of working well as part of a team, collaborating with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure the pupil's needs are met.
  • An adaptable and proactive approach, ready to take on new challenges in a dynamic classroom environment.
