About the RoleAre you passionate about supporting young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide essential learning and accessibility support at our client's Lambeth campus.
In this role, you will work closely with Personal Care, Support, Health Care Leads, and curriculum staff to help learners access their education, develop independent learning skills, and engage fully in college life. Key Responsibilities- Assist in the educational and social development of learners, working under the direction of support managers and teaching staff.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy and independent learning skills.
- Contribute to the assessment and development of student support plans.
- Provide personal care support, ensuring the safety and well-being of learners.
- Identify and address barriers to learning, developing intervention strategies as needed.
- Ensure learners have access to all College services and can fully participate in College-led activities.
- Assist with specialist equipment and assistive technologies, ensuring they are available and operational.
- Support learners with physical and medical needs, ensuring supervision where necessary.
- Monitor and report any mobility or safety issues in line with College Health and Safety guidelines.
- Participate in learner progress reviews, updating individual support plans and liaising with teaching staff.
- Maintain communication with external agencies, parents, and key workers when required.
- Attend meetings and training as required to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
- Understanding of safeguarding and maintaining safe learning environments.
- Experience and/or willingness to assist learners with personal care and mobility.
- Awareness of barriers faced by individuals with learning difficulties and the ability to respond sensitively.
- Experience working with SEN learners in a secondary or FE environment.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to working with learners.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to follow structured support plans.
- A proactive attitude to identifying and removing learning barriers.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- IT proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office, email).
- Ability to use or willingness to learn Makaton, BSL, or Sign-a-Long.
- Ability to work independently and with initiative.
